Hello! How can we help you?

What are the best features to look for in an outdoor rollator?

An outdoor rollator is far more than a "walker with wheels". To stay safe, comfortable and genuinely mobile on gravel, grass, cobblestones and forest trails, it needs features built specifically for the outdoors. Here is what to look for — and how each one is engineered into a Trionic Veloped or Trionic Walker.

Large wheels built for rough ground

The single biggest difference between an indoor rollator and a true outdoor one is the wheels. Small, hard castors stall on the first stone or crack; large wheels simply roll over them. The Trionic Walker comes in three wheel sizes — the 9er (9"/23 cm), 12er (12"/31 cm) and 14er (14"/36 cm) — while the Trionic Veloped comes with 12"/31 cm or 14"/36 cm wheels front and rear as standard. Those big wheels let the Veloped manage gravel, curbs, cobblestones, rocks, roots and wooden trails with far greater ease and comfort than a conventional rollator.

Air-filled tyres and real suspension for a smooth ride

Tyre type matters as much as size. Pneumatic (air-filled) tyres absorb shocks, soak up vibration and grip better on loose or slippery ground, so bumps do not travel up into your hands, wrists, shoulders and back. Every Trionic Veloped and Walker rolls on pneumatic, air-pressured tyres for exactly this reason. On top of the cushioning from the tyres, the Veloped adds front-wheel suspension, so the ride stays smooth even over uneven terrain.

A strong, lightweight frame

An outdoor rollator has to be light enough to push and steer easily, yet strong enough to lean on with full confidence. Trionic rollators use a robust, rust-proof aluminium construction that holds up to the weather and the workload. The Veloped is tested and approved to the international standard ISO 11199-2:2005 for a maximum user weight of 150 kg (around 330 lb).

Reliable, lockable all-terrain brakes

Safety outdoors comes down to braking — you need brakes that are easy to reach and squeeze, that slow you smoothly on a slope, and that lock firmly when you stop to rest. Trionic fits its outdoor models with ATB – All-Terrain-Brakes, including both a motion brake to slow you down and a parking brake to lock the wheels when you pause or sit. Unlike conventional rollators that brake against the tyre surface, Trionic's hub brakes work independently of the tyres, so braking stays consistent and your tyres do not wear out.

A comfortable seat and plenty of storage

Outdoor walks are longer, so a good place to rest is essential — as is room to carry your shopping, water or jacket. Every Trionic rollator includes a seat so you can stop and rest wherever you are, and the Veloped's seat slides to give you extra legroom while walking. For carrying, you get a roomy, water-repellent basket with a zippered pocket; on models like the Veloped Trek you can add a backpack and seat bag for longer outings. The Veloped Tour adds a larger, more comfortable seat and a rain cover.

Ergonomic, fully adjustable handles

Handles that fit you reduce strain and let you walk with a natural posture. Trionic grips are height-adjustable with no fixed increments — so you can set them to exactly the right height — and the angle of the grips is adjustable too. The Veloped's U-shaped grip bar also gives you several hand positions for longer walks.

Foldable and easy to transport

If your rollator travels in the car, it should fold down compactly and lift in easily. The Veloped has a foldable frame, and its wheels detach in seconds thanks to quick-release axles, so it packs down small for the boot of the car, the train or storage at home.

The Trionic difference: features no ordinary rollator has

Two patented Trionic innovations set these rollators apart. The Trionic Climbing Wheel on the Veloped is a dual front wheel that lets you climb obstacles up to 13–15 cm high — a high curb, a root or a rock — without lifting the rollator. And Trionic Syncro Steering on the Walker completely eliminates the shimmying, skewed swivel wheels that can bring an ordinary rollator to an abrupt, trip-inducing stop.

Put it all together and you have a rollator that keeps you stable, safe and comfortable wherever you want to go — in the city, in the park, around the summer house or out on the trail. That is exactly what a Trionic is built for.
