Hello! How can we help you?

Do you have rollators with a reverse braking system?

No. Trionic doesn't make rollators with a reverse braking system, where the brakes are on by default and you have to squeeze or press the handles to release them. All Trionic rollators, both the Walker and the Veloped, use conventional hand brakes: squeeze the brake lever to slow down.

To park, squeeze the brake and lock it with the small parking lever on the brake handle. You can do this with one hand by moving the lever with your index finger, or with both hands by holding the brake with one hand and moving the lever with the other. Always lock both parking brakes before you sit down on the seat. You can't lock them safely once you're seated.

What makes Trionic brakes different is what happens at the wheel. Every Trionic rollator has hub brakes (drum brakes) built into the wheel hub, not the brake blocks that most rollators use.

How standard rollator brakes work

On most rollators, pulling the lever presses a small block against the tyre. How well this works depends on the condition of the tyre and the surface: wet, muddy or snowy tyres give less grip, the block wears the tyre down over time, and as the tyre wears the brake needs readjusting to keep working.

Why hub brakes are better

  • Consistent braking in all weather. The braking happens inside an enclosed drum in the hub, so rain, mud, slush and gravel on the tyre don't weaken it.
  • Smooth, controlled braking. You can slow down gradually, which feels safer on downhill slopes and uneven ground.
  • No wear on the tyres. Nothing rubs against the tyre, so the brakes don't wear it out and the tyre doesn't affect braking power.
  • Low maintenance. Hub brakes keep their adjustment longer. When they do need adjusting, it's done at the wheel with an 8 mm spanner.

If you need a rollator with reverse braking because of a specific medical need, we recommend asking your occupational therapist or physiotherapist which solution suits you best.

  • Worth Every Penny - Best "Walker" on the Market…

I had been looking for a walker with larger, rubber tube tires forever it seemed. The small, hard, plastic tires on all walkers are only good for very short distances on even surfaces. Then I saw this product and I chatted and spoke to the company …
