Does Medicare cover a rollator?
Rollators may be covered under Medicare Part B as Durable Medical Equipment (DME) when prescribed by a physician for a medical condition. To qualify:
- You must have a Medicare-approved need (a doctor must certify that the rollator is medically necessary)
- The rollator must be purchased from a Medicare-enrolled supplier
- Your doctor must document your diagnosis and functional limitations
Medicare Part B typically covers 80% of the approved amount after your deductible, and Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans may cover the remaining 20%. Contact your physician or a Medicare-enrolled DME supplier to begin the authorization process. We can provide product specifications and clinical documentation to support a Medicare referral.
HSA and FSA reimbursement
Rollators are IRS-qualified medical expenses and are eligible for reimbursement from Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA). You can use your HSA or FSA debit card directly at checkout, or submit a receipt for reimbursement through your plan administrator. No prior authorization is required for HSA/FSA purchases.
VA benefits and other funding
Several programs can help cover the cost of a rollator:
- VA Health Benefits — Veterans enrolled in VA healthcare may receive rollators and mobility aids through the VA Prosthetics and Sensory Aids Service (PSAS). Contact your VA primary care provider to initiate a referral.
- Medicaid — Coverage for rollators varies by state. Many state Medicaid programs cover rollators as DME with a physician prescription. Contact your state Medicaid office for eligibility details.
- State Assistive Technology Programs — All 50 states operate federally funded AT programs that provide loans, demonstrations and financing for mobility aids. Find your state program at ataporg.org.
- Vocational Rehabilitation — If a rollator helps you maintain employment, state VR programs may fund it through the Rehabilitation Services Administration.
We can supply product specification sheets, pricing letters and clinical information to support any insurance or benefits application. Contact our customer service team — we respond within one business day.
Try before you buy
Trionic has dealers across the United States who offer in-person demonstrations. Alternatively, order online with our 30-day home trial — use the rollator on the sidewalks, paths and terrain you actually walk, and return it free if it is not right for you.
